Sample of reference for MLA and APA formatting
A Sample of reference depends on the types of formatting that you chosen for your paper. According to studydaddy there are two major types of formatting that are MLA format paper and APA formatting.
MLA formatting:
The referencing in this type of formatting contains the second name of the author rather than his or her first name and then followed by the page number of the paper. A four gap space should be left after the title in order to write your name, roll number, subject and the other entries required by your tutors. The MLA formatting is one of the common types of essay formats next to APA formatting. Here is a sample of reference for MLA type of formatting:
• Thomas, Ronald R. Detective Fiction and the Rise of Forensic Science. Cambridge, UK: Cambridge UP, 1999- this is the referencing format in case there is only a single author for the book.
• In case there are more than single authors for a book, then the formatting style is: Bloom, Jonathan, and Sheila Blair. Islam: A Thousand Years of Faith and Power. New York, NY: TV Books, 2000.
These are the common referencing style for a book. There are also separate referencing format for other types of books that has no author but an editor, no editor but an author, etc.
APA formatting:
The reference list should come in a new page. It is a separate part of the research paper on its own. The reference list will contain a list sources that you have taken for your research paper. It should contain the second name of the author, followed by the year of publication, the title and then the page number. You can also give the website address if asked for. The sample of reference for APA formatting is:
• If there is a single director, the forma is: Slethaug.G.E, 2007, Teaching Abroad: International Education and the Cross-cultural Classroom (Electronic Version), Hong Kong University Press, p.5.
• If there are more than one author, then the formatting style is: Hooley.W.R, Yu.H.C, Yoo.H.J, 2002, The Post-financial Crisis Challenges for Asian Industrialization (Electronic Version), Emerald Group Publishing, p.324.
If the books are taken from the internet, the referencing will be as follows:
• Sukhatme. S. P, 1994, The Real Brain Drain (Electronic Version), Orient Blackswan , p.1, from, (the corresponding website).
This is how referencing is done for different types of formatting. A sample gives an idea to a writer on how the referencing is done foe a particular type of formatting. Though there are guidelines for referencing, a sample will help the person and give him a precise help and he or she will be able to give the referencing more accurately.
