Common to Host 'A Grammy Salute to the Sounds of Change' 3 Days After Grammys
It’s a safe bet you're going to hear such anthems as "A Change Is Gonna Come" and "People Get Ready."
If the three-and-a-half-hour Grammy Awards telecast set for Sunday isn’t enough for you, the Recording Academy will be back on CBS just three nights later with a two-hour TV special: A Grammy Salute to the Sounds of Change.
Common will host the special, which will “spotlight the iconic songs that inspired social change and left an everlasting imprint on history,” according to a Recording Academy statement. It’s a safe bet you’re going to hear such anthems as “A Change Is Gonna Come” and “People Get Ready.”
The show will include appearances by Yolanda Adams, Leon Bridges, Eric Church, D Smoke, Andra Day, Sheila E., Cynthia Erivo, John Fogerty, Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle, Terrace Martin, Brad Paisley, Billy Porter, LeAnn Rimes, Chris Stapleton and Emily, Emilio and Gloria Estefan.
The show will also include clips from past Grammy telecasts, introduced by “presenters from the worlds of entertainment, art and activism.”
The special will be broadcast on Wednesday, March 17, from 9-11 p.m. ET/PT. It will also be available via livestream and on-demand on Paramount+.
Jesse Collins Entertainment is producing the special. Collins, Dionne Harmon and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay are executive producers. Chantel Sausedo and Rob Paine are producers. Adam Blackstone serves as musical director.
Collins has long been a major name in TV production, but his career has gone into overdrive this year. He was an executive producer of the Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show on Feb. 7, working alongside the NFL Network, Jay-Z and Roc Nation. (The Grammy-snubbed The Weeknd was the headliner.) He is co-executive producer of the 63rd annual Grammy Awards set for Sunday night (working under Ben Winston and alongside Raj Kapoor). He is one of three producers of the 93rd annual Academy Awards, set for April 25 (along with Stacey Sher and Steven Soderbergh).
Jesse Collins Entertainment has produced such specials as John Lewis: Celebrating A Hero, Love & Happiness: An Obama Celebration, Change Together: From The March On Washington To Today and Stand Up for Heroes; such miniseries as The New Edition Story and The Bobby Brown Story; and such awards shows as BET Awards, Black Girls Rock!, BET Honors, BET Hip Hop Awards and Soul Train Awards.
